Staying Fit While Traveling: Tips and Tricks for Spring & Summer Adventures
How do you maintain your fitness while enjoying Spring and Summer travel plans?
As the sun starts shining brighter and vacation plans start filling up the calendar, it’s easy to fall out of your workout routine.
Long road trips, airport delays, hotel stays, and packed itineraries can throw even the most committed gym-goer off track. But staying active on the go doesn’t have to feel like a chore, in fact, it can actually be fun.
Whether you're hitting the beach, exploring a new city, or heading to a family reunion, here are our best tips and tricks to help you stay fit and energized while traveling this season:
1. Take Advantage of Your Time at Fitness 19
When you are home, make sure you take advantage of the time you do have at Fitness 19.
When you are traveling many fitness related things will be out of your hands, so make sure to make every moment in your home gym matter! Then, it will be easier to travel without any guilt your fitness is slipping.
2. Pack Light, Move Smart
You don’t need a full gym setup to get in a solid workout.
Pack a resistance band, jump rope, or sliders. All of these pieces of equipment they’re lightweight, take up barely any space, and can be used for a full-body session right in your hotel room or outside.
3. Use Your Bodyweight
Push-ups, planks, squats, lunges, burpees — your body is the only gym you need.
Try a 20-minute HIIT circuit or a morning yoga flow to shake off the stiffness of travel and start the day with energy.
While you might be spoiled with the many things Fitness 19 offers, you can still get a good workout without us (for a few days at least!)
4. Take Advantage of Your Surroundings
Sightseeing? Turn it into a cardio session. Walk or bike instead of driving. Both walking and biking are often overlooked for the quality of the workout they provide, so incorporate them into your vacation.
If your destination allows for it, try to explore hiking trails, swim in the ocean, or even do step-ups on park benches. Vacation is the perfect excuse to get creative with your movement.
5. Book A Hotel With A Gym
If a workout facility is important to you, check hotel amenities before you book.
Alternatively, many local gyms, including Fitness 19 locations, offer affordable day passes or short-term access if you want to stay consistent with your routine.
6. Prioritize Morning Movement
Schedules get packed quickly when you’re traveling, and workouts can get pushed to the bottom of the list. Aim to knock it out first thing in the morning.
Even a quick stretch or 15-minute sweat session will get the blood flowing and release endorphins so you feel good all day.
7. Hydrate and Fuel Wisely
It’s easy to overindulge while away, and you should absolutely enjoy your trip, but staying hydrated and mindful of what you eat can make a big difference in how you feel.
Try to include at least one nutrient-packed meal a day and drink plenty of water, especially if you're in the sun.
If you've gotten in a morning workout like we suggested above, eating a healthy breakfast and some water afterwards, and before you activities start, is the perfect way to start a day on the road!
8. Be Flexible and Forgive Yourself
This part is key: you're allowed to relax.
Staying fit while traveling isn't about sticking to a strict plan — it's about keeping momentum, protecting your energy, and returning home without feeling like you’re starting from zero.
Final Thoughts:
Spring and summer adventures shouldn’t mean sacrificing your health goals. With a little preparation and a lot of flexibility, you can keep moving, stay strong, and still soak up every moment of your vacation. Remember, fitness is a lifestyle — and it travels with you.
